Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern by Brian Dittmar

It’s that time of year we start thinking about taking a warm weather holiday. Palm Springs has been one of my favorite sun-drenched destinations. The sunny desert community has a wonderful, laid back feel I love. It’s also home to some of the best mid-century architecture and interiors around.

To put us in the mood, today we are touring a beautiful desert vacation getaway San Francisco’s Brian Dittmar designed for his Northern California clients. Fondly referred to as the “Atomic Tiki” house by Brian, it was built in 1965 in the Golf Club Estates section of South Palm Springs and has an unusual Polynesian-style roofline with mid-century interior. The result is colorful, playful and looks like a set from Mad Men. Makes me want to book a trip to Palm Springs today.

My design brief was to make carefully considered, artful and subtle changes that would refresh the interiors while keeping the residence’s original vibe through a mix of mid-century furnishings and pieces with subtle Polynesian references. – Brian Dittmar
